I remember

Sometimes I get really busy on the business side of my art. And I actually love updating my website and tracking my inventory and signing the prints and sending out orders. I had lots of jobs as secretaries or administrative/office stuff and I can organize a Google doc with the best of them.

But then I pick up a brush.

And I’m like, ohhhhhh. I forgot for a minute. I forgot the pure joy of taking a chunk of thick paint and making blocky shapes. I forgot how much I looooove putting that layer of dark paint down and then mixing a lighter tint of the same color and laying in the shading. I forgot how much fun it is to carve in the negative space around the shapes—how organic and lovely they can make edges look. I forgot how much I love taking just a bit of paint on a dry brush and running it over the texture to give a dusting of snow to the trees. I forgot how this, THIS beautiful wonderful game I get to play every time I step up to the easel with a brush and some paint, THIS is what it’s all about.

I remember now. ❤️👩🏻‍🎨
