Hungry

For years I set a goal in my business to paint 100 finished paintings in a year. I believe in the ten thousand hour rule and that practice makes better. I’d commit to studio time even when my babies were all so little because I was hungry to get better as an artist. It took a long time and i got close several years but couldn’t quite make that summit. Finally in 2020, I hit my goal and finished the year with 105 paintings, including the biggest size I’d ever painted.

I finished 2021 with 174 paintings.

There were several huge paintings and several small ones, but every one of them required attention and layer after layer until it reached a good place. I’ve learned so much and am so proud of how much this little business of mine has grown.

I’m excited to keep learning more in 2022. I’m excited to read more of the art books I’ve purchased but haven’t slowed down long enough to finish. I’m excited to make space to play and experiment more, to keep understanding my mediums and how they work together. I’m excited for the challenge of capturing your memories and stories in paint. I’m interested in how I can use my brush to share the joy of the human experience. I’m endlessly curious. I have thousands of photos still waiting to be painted.

I’ve completed my eighth year of being a professional artist and small business owner, but one thing has never changed.

I’m still hungry.
