On to Bigger and Better
["On to Bigger and Better" 9x12, available] Sometimes I'm most endeared to my husband when we're having discussions about our budget or our next house project. The romantic gestures are wonderful, but the times we're packing up boxes together or painting a wall or endlessly loading and unloading the dishwasher are all the signs that we're going through life as a team. I remember when we were putting in our sprinkler system and he was digging a hole looking for the water main. He needed help, so I got in the hole too and held a bucket. He filled it with dirt and I emptied it over and over. It was the epitome of unglamorous, both of us dirty and tired. But we were laughing. And he started singing to me and I had the overwhelming feeling that if he's working down in a hole, there's no place in the world I'd rather be than working right here with him. There is a lot of beauty in the adventures of ordinary life, especially when you get to go through them with someone you love so much. We're celebrating ten years together this year, and I'm so grateful that all that life side by side has just gotten bigger and better.
