Dots

One of my favorite things I learned from my high school art classes was pointillism—the art of making pictures out of dots. Sometimes I still pull out pieces like this (that I’ve been working on for years) just for the therapy of it. There’s something beautiful in the repetition of making small marks, more where it’s dark, less where it’s light. Up close, it’s hard to see what you’re making and how it’ll turn out, but zooming out it all makes sense. Steve Jobs said, “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.” Amen, Steve-o.
