Game Changer
When my twins were taking their first swimming lessons, they refused to put their faces in the water. It was so frustrating for their swimming teacher and for me watching, because no amount of coaxing would get them to do it. It made it hard for them to progress when they wouldn't even try. Finally, their teacher mentioned to me that I might want to get better quality goggles (theirs were just some cheap ones--apparently brand matters when it comes to goggles). So I did and it was a GAME CHANGER. Suddenly, they stuck their faces in just fine and actually started loving swimming! I remember when I was struggling to make art after college and everything seemed to end up in the garbage pile. Until I took one workshop from an artist I love and watching how she set up paintings was a game changer for me. It's hard to predict when the game changers will come for the struggles in our lives, but I tell my kids these stories and teach them to be patient and have faith that they're coming. At some point something clicks and what was once hard will almost magically become easy. We just have to keep holding on.
