Love is: Growing Old Together

Day 18 --“Love is: Growing Old Together” 6x6, $185 (comment “sold” on instagram to purchase https://www.instagram.com/stephaniehockart/) My brother Peter took this picture and I couldn't get it out of my head. What a privilege it is to grow old with the one you love. What a gift to have weathered so many seasons and still choose each other. Of course it's hard. Of course they've fought at times. Of course it doesn't always look like a vacation at the beach. But there's a strength in these seasoned couples that matches a strong, firm tree. They're not going to fall apart with every gust of wind. Deeply rooted love looks like forgiveness and service and selflessness and listening and changing your worst parts and seeing past the worst parts of them. It's choosing each other first before kids and friends and work and all the other things that try to distract us, making sure the marriage is nourished. I feel lucky when I catch glimpses of couples like this, they make me happy and hopeful. (Ref 📷: @p_topia 🙏🏻)

In February, I’m challenging myself to do a painting EVERY DAY!! The paintings will explore the theme of love stories- romantic love, parental love, self-love, love for nature, etc. As some of my favorite artists said, “in the end the love you give is equal to the love you make.” Therefore, I will always be on a quest to fill the world with as much love as I can. You’ll be able to see all the paintings at #lovestoriesstephhock. Here’s how it will work: every painting will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Because they will each go to the first person to comment “sold,” you’ll want to turn on your push notifications so you can be notified each time I post a new painting! They’ll all be 6x6 inches and cost $185 each (plus tax and shipping.)
