No matter what subject I’m painting, they always turn into people for me. They become placeholders for human experiences and feelings. I get a lump in my throat for the tomato who isn’t the same as the oranges, but maybe they’re the sweet kind of oranges who see past the skin and realize they’re both juicy and delicious on the inside and that’s what matters most.
