The Breadwinner
The original of this painting hangs in my bedroom and I stare at it so often. I get lost in the dark shadows of the pants merging with the dark shadows of the chair, the hard edges of the shoes versus the soft edges of the shadows, the way the light plays with each surface.... I’m amazed that it still intrigues me so much even after staring at it for years. But that is the fun of having art on your walls—it gives you new gifts every time you stop to study.
