Compliment Each Other
One of my closest friends and I serve together in the same organization in our church. We often joke about how differently we both approach situations. If we were a parenting book, I’d be the logic and she’d be the love. But I watch us both work together (along with others that serve with us) and think how grateful I am that we all bring our different strengths. We need it all! I heard a quote recently referring to what made The Boys in the Boat such a powerful story. Sharon Eubank said, “Good crews are good blends—someone to lead the charge, someone to hold something in reserve, someone to fight the fight, someone to make peace. No rower is more valuable than another, all are assets to the boat, but if they are to row well together, each must adjust to the needs and capabilities of the others—the shorter-armed person reaching a little farther, the longer-armed person pulling in just a bit.” Isn’t this so true? We need every one of us to bring our talents to the table and we as a whole will be better for it.
I thought about this idea a lot as I painted this painting, how a beautifully choreographed dance like this wouldn’t work without each person doing their part. I painted each of the complimentary color pairs on the dancers and loved how even though their poses are similar, each dancer is still so individual and different. Just like all of us.
