Nurturing

I’m really excited to be part of a show opening this week titled “Certain Women: Reflections on a Mother in Heaven.” I’m not usually a religious painter, even though so many pieces resonate with deep spiritual feelings I have. This is my piece for the show, “Nurturing” 36x48.

I find my Heavenly Mother in Her daughters. I see Her in the relationships between women, how they nurture and care for each other. I see the way they show up when things are hard and get their hands dirty, picking the weeds side by side, clearing the bad. I see the way they show up when things are good, planting new seeds, helping water and nourish so good can grow. I feel the history and strength of so many strong plants, strong women who have grown before us and how their reach and persistence provide shade for those of us still growing. I find her in the way women nurture. I see Her daughters care for people, care for the earth, care for causes, care for so many things. I see strength in her daughters, the way they shoulder so much and still carry on. I see it in the community women build for each other—the safe spaces they make to laugh and share and hold each other’s hearts. Like a favorite song, dear Mother all flowers (all things of beauty, all women) remind me of You. @certainwomenartshow @anthonysfineart

(Shout out to some of my favorite women who helped me both plant flowers in my yard when I needed it and also pose as models for this painting when I asked ❤️❤️❤️)
