Build Me A Boat
One of my newest paintings is one of my favorites I’ve ever done. I had dreams about this painting and kept waking up SO excited to get into the studio and work on it. I love the aerial angle of the boats. I loved trying to simplify the shapes as much as possible (how much info do you need to tell what it is?). I loved that deep, rich blue in contrast with those bright, white boats.
The whole time I painted this, I had one of my favorite James Taylor songs in my head (I know he’s not the original singer, but I like his version best).
The water is wide
I can’t cross over
And neither have I wings to fly
Build me a boat
That can carry two
And both shall row, my love and I
It’s one of my favorites for a reason and especially because this scene plays out over and over in my own life—the water’s too deep, too hard to cross by myself. But I’m not alone. I’ve got the best partner who rows along with me and we always make it to the other side ❤️
