Full Heart

Full studio. Full heart. This happens all the time when I’m working—my children gather in like a magnetic pull. They tell me about their school days, they ask all their questions, we troubleshoot their problems. This photo captures me living my dream life—being a full time artist with a business I built & love, and a mom who gets to watch my kids grow up. My girls are in their school musical this week and learning all about putting on makeup. We are hitting milestones fast and constantly. One daughter asked if I’d please change “small children” on my website bio to just “children” (how insulting to still call my teenagers small 😂😂). But she’s not wrong.

And this is what I love about paint—I can still freeze them at any age I want and capture my favorite memories. Hold on to my girls learning to put on makeup, my boys learning to type, putting on their little league uniforms—even when they jump right to the next milestone. We can be excited about the future and savor the past and present. And someday when my studio is empty and they’re all off having adventures of their own, I’ll still have these sketches of a day like today. When my four (not small!) chicks are still under my wing. 💛
