That They May Be Light
Years ago I was pregnant with twins and trying to move into our first home. Women I went to church with kept offering to come help me pack and I kept turning them away, thinking I could handle it all myself. But the deadline was looming and I was working full time and exhausted growing two babies. I finally swallowed my pride and asked for help. A team of women showed up and in a couple hours on a Saturday morning did what it would’ve taken weeks to do on my own. Better yet, they were so cheerful and loving and had me laughing and enjoying the work. I learned so much from that experience and their example, and so many similar ones since then (including yesterday when a team of women helped me organize a funeral luncheon for a neighbor who passed away and made a heavy load light). When we lift each other, we don’t feel the storms raging around us. When we bring our light to one another, we are all filled with the light of Christ, which chases away all the darkness and fills us with hope.
This painting captured this idea for me and meant so much to me when I painted it. I’m so grateful it can be the cover art for this publication of @byustudies and shared in this way. I hope it brings light.
