fathers day part 1

Fathers Day round up part 1!

I was driving around with my girls the other day and the song "You Can Call Me Al" by Paul Simon came on. It took me right back to being a kid and driving around in my dad's blue Jetta while he cranked the volume on his favorite songs and we sang at the top of our lungs with the windows rolled down (no air conditioning in the 80's). I told my girls that I have my dad to thank for introducing me to so many great musicians, it was such a big part of my childhood. My dad would come home with a new CD of an artist he loved, a record he remembered buying back in his long-haired, rebellious teenage days when he thought maybe he really would run off and join a band. And we'd sit and listen to Elton hit those first notes of "Bennie and the Jetsssss." Or Jim Croce with his crisp and humble, "I've got a name." Or how my dad would pause the CD (look! a CD can pause!) and laugh at the Paul Simon lyric, "Ain't we walking down the same street together on the very same day?" And then, always, most of all, there was the Beatles. I used to joke that my parents' grew up with the Beatles in their childhood and I grew up with them in mine because of how much they were constantly being replayed all my life. My dad loved rewinding a song just to pick out a riff from the bass guitarist or a clever line or a great drum solo. He has always had such an appreciation for great music and I love him for sharing that with me all my life. Happy Fathers day to all those who taught us how to listen and, maybe more, taught us how to feel ❤️🎶
