All That Light Passes Through

I took the reference photo for this painting of the water mugs at a rest stop somewhere in southern Utah. We were road tripping and my kids were restless, so we stopped for lunch at this fun side-of-the-road diner that wouldn’t take credit cards. It had the kind of food road trips are made of—big, juicy burgers and thick milkshakes perfect for dipping thin, crispy fries in. I sat watching my kids play, feeling the fresh air and sunshine, and basked in how much joy there is in the getting there. I had no idea how the rest of the vacation would turn out, but being together with my family away from it all was success enough for me. Every time I look at this painting, I smell summer and the joy comes flooding back. Here’s to the summer of 2018! May it be our best one yet ☀️☀️☀️
