Personal Best
[“Personal Best” 24x36, available at J GO Gallery] I'm not a runner. But I've always admired how runners strive for their personal best-- always trying to set a new personal record. They run alongside others in a competition, but the win comes from doing better than they've done before. They push against their own history and status quo to shave even a few minutes off their time-- a new personal best. I think there's so much to learn from this example of constantly improving a little bit at a time, comparing only to yourself and pushing beyond the easy and comfortable. I think humans can accomplish pretty amazing things when they believe in themselves.
