My community

Every painting is a learning experience, and this recent painting, “My Community,” was so much fun. I was playing with design and simplicity as I painted this. How much information do we need to tell a story? What are the simplest marks that convey shapes? How can I play with lost and found edges? I find it amazing how much our brain “fills in” to complete things, whether or not it’s really there. This painting was painted with a very limited, cohesive color palette and lots of bold brushwork. It fast became one of my very favorites. Swipe to see some closer up details! [“My Community” 24x36, available at @15th_street_gallery or message me if you’re interested]
