Lemon light
When I started painting professionally eleven years ago, I painted a lot of fruit paintings. I loved the bright colors and fresh themes and even though they were technically “still life” they always felt like symbols or characters to me. Sometimes I’d give them cheeky titles like “Family Reunion” and let people come up with their own stories about who was who in their own fruit bowl. I saw a painting years ago of the light shining through a lemon wedge and I couldn’t get the idea out of my head so I finally painted my own version. I think often about wanting to be this in life—be someone the light can shine through, be someone who radiates good/hope/joy/better things. I’m often terrible at it, too caught up in my own grumpiness or hunger or weighed down by own stress. But this is what I’m striving to be. To look around and be a light. Lift others just a little bit higher.
