I love taking watercolors and pens and paper everywhere I go so I can create art everywhere. I love the simplicity of quick sketches on paper. I love capturing suggestions of lines and color but not always telling the whole story. I love how figures pose themselves in real life, the angles of their arms and hips and the way they cross their legs and tilt their heads. I love capturing people in their normal environments, going about regular activities, wearing the clothes they pick out themselves, making the statements about themselves they want to make. I love the quiet moments that let us ponder and stop and take deep breaths in between all the hustle, the space where sometimes we stop and feel the sun on our face and close our eyes and just soak it all in. I love the beauty in the mess, the paint that goes outside the lines, the lines that go beyond the form, the shapes that take up more than their space— it’s real and it humanizes us and when we see it in ourselves and each other we remember that we’re not alone. We’re all vulnerable, we’re all doing our best, we all need grace for ourselves and grace for each other. It’s all beautiful and it’s all okay. There’s so much to love in life.
