Great Salt Lake City
I’m so excited about this big painting I’m bringing to @artattheparkutah this week! I’ve been working on it forever. I wanted to pay tribute to my city and capture not just downtown and the mountains we love so much, but also the Great Salt Lake that the city is named for. Could I capture all three in the same painting? Could I pull out details of the buildings that look recognizable but still be loose and impressionist? Could I get all those great shadows and lights on the mountains that make every little crevice and canyon familiar to all of us who stare up at this skyline everyday (and hike/ski/climb/bike/etc when we have a spare ten minutes… one of the best parts of Salt Lake—how fast and easy it is to switch from urban to nature). Oh how I love this place I’ve lived all my life. A tiny phone screen really doesn’t do this painting justice, you’re just gonna have to come see it for yourself…
“Great Salt Lake City” 36x48, available this week at @artattheparkutah, Friday and Saturday at @thisistheplaceheritagepark.
