Yellow Pants

I missed it, but sometime earlier this year, I reached over 1,000 paintings since I started my business. Obviously that’s a fluid number since I don’t catalog all the sketches, paper paintings and practice paintings in my studio that never make it to the inventory spreadsheet (nor does it include all my art as a student or amateur before I went full time). But as far as finished paintings that are photographed, in the database, available for sales, prints, licensing, online projects, etc, I’m now at 1,034 professional finished paintings in my catalog. The whole 10,000 hour rule is such a real thing! The only way to get better is to keep showing up. I remember one of the best pieces of advice from a more advanced artist than me was that I should have PILES of bad art in my studio (I do!) just because it means I'm constantly playing, trying new things, practicing, testing different styles or mediums, making art just for myself or just for fun... There really is no roadmap to this career, you just have to keep going down the path and keep making things. Sales might come and go, other artists might come and go, the economy will go up and down, you will change, your life will change, meanwhile--KEEP MAKING ART.

You are an icon and I am inspired by you and going to paint your whole vibe. May we all live our dreams intentionally, consistently and preferably in the brightest yellow pants we can find 💛
