When I was pregnant with my twins, I was working full time and we were also moving into our first home. We had been living in my grandparents' house and were supposed to have everything packed and ready by a certain date. I was so optimistic that I could do it all myself. But my body was exhausted, growing two humans, and I was running out of time. There were wonderful women in my neighborhood who kept offering to help, but I kept telling them I was fine. Finally, the deadline was looming and I had to face the truth: I couldn't do it all myself. I called for help. And then next day, a whole team of women showed up and got my whole house packed in just a couple hours. They were efficient and joyful and made the whole thing seem like fun and not work. They gave me hugs and left me with a large lump in my throat at the complete generosity of people being so selfless. What was taking me days, was just a few hours of work on one Saturday morning. What was something they probably haven't thought of since, was something I will never, ever forget. Love is service.
