Places to Go

Full disclosure: I’m a deep, deep homebody. I sometimes go days without leaving the house. I’m comfortable at home and I like having my studio in my house so I can live and work all in the same space. I love when people come into my home and visit me and I love making my space comfortable for them. But even with all that, there is always something exciting about having a reason to go out. As much as I love my hoodies and joggers, I like having reasons to wear my other nicer clothes too (the ones that don’t have paint all over them). I like fixing my hair and putting on lipstick and having tickets to something or eating a meal that I didn’t have to prepare. I like being around other people and having shared experiences, soaking in the humanity and life and new things all around me. It fills me up creatively and I come back and dine on that energy for months in my studio. I feel like a scavenger, finding all the best scraps of the human experience, collecting all the light, and then bringing it home and turning it into art. Thank goodness for the cozy, happy home world I’ve built for myself. And thank goodness for the reasons I have to leave it, places to go and people to see.  ["Places To Go" 16x20]
